One Billion Rising 2026 Observed in Chizami: Youth Unite for Change
On 14 February 2026, the One Billion Rising (OBR) campaign was observed at the futsal ground of G.M. Government High School, Chizami Village, Phek District, Nagaland, under the global theme “Rise for Our Bodies, Our Earth, Our Future.” The event brought together young people from across neighbouring communities, creating a lively space for connection, participation, and meaningful dialogue.
Organised by North East Network (NEN) and Nenterprise–Chizami Weaves in collaboration with the Combined Youth Fellowship, the programme saw the participation of 152 youth—83 males and 69 females—from six community youth departments representing Yosaba, Pfutshemi, Enhulumi, Chizami Village, Chizami Town, and Sumi Village.
The day was structured around two key components: games and an awareness session. Sports activities such as futsal, volleyball, and tug of war added energy and excitement to the event, encouraging teamwork, strengthening bonds, and fostering a spirit of inclusion among participants.
Alongside the games, an awareness session was conducted by Mrs. Neingupeu K. Rhakho, who served as the resource person. The session focused on raising awareness about different forms of violence—including physical, verbal, and emotional harm. It encouraged participants to reflect on these issues and recognise their role in building respectful and safe communities.
The observance highlighted the importance of creating inclusive spaces where young people can learn, share, and grow together. More importantly, it inspired participants to become active changemakers, committed to building a more just, equal, and compassionate society.
