Chizami Weaves was born out of Nenterprises, a division of the parent organization, North East Network (NEN).
Dr. Monisha Behal, Chairperson

Dr. Monisha Behal is the co-founder and former Executive Director of North East Network (NEN). She is a social development worker who has advocated for social justice for rural women in the North East region of India since the early 1980s. Through extensive work across the region, she identified the urgent need to promote women's social and economic justice. Her initiatives include establishing the Chizami Resource Centre in Nagaland, fostering youth engagement with biodiversity and indigenous knowledge, and co-initiating Green Hub in Tezpur, a digital archive for wildlife and environmental conservation films. Dr. Behal also founded Nenterprise, an enterprise of NEN, to promote women's weaving livelihoods.
Ketaki Bardalai, Member

Ketaki was actively involved in the formative years of Shishu Sarothi Centre for Rehabilitation and Training for Multiple Disability from 1989 to 2005, when she relocated to Delhi. In Delhi, she continued to work in the disability sector in non-government and government settings.
In 2018, she was an Adviser to the Saneki Weaves project of North East Network before returning to Shishu Sarothi after a hiatus of almost 13 years as Executive Director.
She helped operationalize the Foundation for Social Transformation work from 2008 to 2012 and is currently a Board Member there. She is also a Team Member of St Jude Childcare Centre Guwahati.
Seno Tsuhah, Member

Seno is an educator, an indigenous women’s rights activist, and a community development worker based in Chizami Village, Nagaland. She worked with North East Network (NEN) from 1998 to 2020, contributing to the establishment of the NEN Nagaland Chapter and the NEN Resource Centre in Chizami, alongside Monisha Behal. With over 25 years of experience in gender issues, social justice, biodiversity, and sustainable livelihoods, Seno has been actively involved in community mobilization, capacity building, and policy advocacy. Her work focuses on restoring indigenous food and farming systems, setting up women-led community seed banks, and launching craft-based livelihood initiatives such as Chizami Weaves. She has also worked to amplify the voices of indigenous communities through participatory videos.
Currently, Seno serves as an advisor to North East Network, Nenterprise (Chizami Weaves), and is a member of the Millet Network of India (MINI), InsightShare Network, and Roots Studio.
Rekha Rose Dukru, Member

Rekha Rose Dukru is an entrepreneur, social worker, and timber trader from Zhavame, Nagaland. She is known for her innovative work in tourism and rural development. She is the driving force behind Kapamodzü Peak, a popular tourist destination she took over in 2022, transforming it with local resources and community involvement. Rekha believes strongly in empowering rural communities and this approach is evident in her leadership as executive member in the Chakhesang tribe’s apex body, her role as a farmer, entrepreneur and in all her ventures. A graduate of St. Aloysius College with a PG Diploma in Mass Communication from Nagaland University, she has also made significant contributions to documentary filmmaking.
Nani Kumar Saikia, Member

Nani Kumar Saikia, from Sipajhar, Assam, currently serves as the Executive Director of SATRA. Actively engaged in the development sector since 1997, he brings extensive experience in livelihood promotion, disaster management, women and child development, community mental health, and entrepreneurship development. Since 2004, he has been closely associated with North East Network (NEN) and Nenterprise, contributing to its strategic growth and impact
Kungreiliu Gangmei, Member

Mrs. Kungreiliu Gangmei completed her Honours and Master’s degree in Sociology from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Inspired by rural development initiatives in Rajasthan during a college study trip, she felt a strong desire to work for marginalized communities. While supporting her education by working in a travel agency, she was further motivated by French farmers visiting India, which deepened her commitment to helping farmers in Northeast India.
After completing her studies, she returned to her village to understand the rural economy before joining the Indo-German Social Service Society (IGSSS) as Youth Coordinator for the SMILE program. Later, she worked with Andheri Hilfe, a funding agency, where she conducted feasibility studies and monitored development projects across India, gaining expertise in agriculture, watershed management, micro-credit, health, education, and income generation.
In 2004, she joined Priscilla Centre to work at the grassroots level, and in 2009, she was appointed Director. Under her leadership, the organization empowered over 3,000 underprivileged women and expanded 12 community-run training institutions in collaboration with local communities. With 25+ years of experience in the development sector, she continues to mentor grassroots organizations and serves as a consultant to Priscilla Centre.
