On 16 October 2025, North East Network (NEN), in collaboration with Nenterprise – Chizami Weaves and Li Cheh Kro, marked World Food Day at NEN RC Chizami under the global theme “Hand in Hand for Healthy Food & a Resilient Future.” The event brought together community members, artisans, and food enthusiasts to celebrate sustainable food systems, indigenous knowledge, and local resilience.
The day featured two parallel competitions: a Natural Dye Competition and an Indigenous Recipe Cooking & Presentation Contest, both highlighting traditional skills and eco-friendly practices. Participants showcased creativity rooted in local culture, followed by a food tasting and judging session.
The formal programme included an invocation, cultural performances, and a keynote address by Ms. Seno Tsuhah, Chairperson of Nenterprise and Advisor to NEN. She emphasized the importance of food sovereignty, sustainable agriculture, and preserving traditional knowledge systems. She also encouraged communities to grow their own food, value farmers, and practice responsible land stewardship.
The event concluded with a closing prayer and a community lunch, leaving participants with a renewed commitment to healthy living and sustainable practices.
