About Us

Chizami Weaves is a women-led social enterprise rooted in the rich textile traditions of Nagaland. A brand under Nenterprise, a Public Charitable Trust registered in 2017, Chizami Weaves is dedicated to preserving indigenous craftsmanship while creating sustainable livelihoods for rural Naga women.

What began in 2008 as a small initiative by North East Network (NEN) with just seven weavers has now grown into a thriving movement, annually engaging 500-600 artisans from 16 villages in Phek District and supporting over 1000 artisans overall.

Our Practices

Chizami Weaves follows a decentralized mode of production, allowing artisans to work independently from their homes, set their own work pace, and determine their monthly production goals. We provide yarn, offer design guidelines, and manage sales channels, but artisans have the creative freedom to choose the motifs they weave. This ensures they can balance weaving with farming and other responsibilities, fostering economic independence while maintaining agency over their craft.

We believe that when women are economically independent and receive respect and dignity for their work, their roles and recognition within their communities are strengthened. At the heart of all our efforts is a deep respect for local knowledge and the dignity of every worker.
