Shawl Name: Chutsura/Samakhu/Metisa
The significance of this shawl varies among the villages of Phek district but in all parts it was worn by both men and women; especially mediators of disputes and men of high esteem. It was also worn at funerals and by ritual performers during exorcism of haunted places. The word ‘Sama’ is a compressed from of ‘Sa’ and ‘Ma’, the literal translation of which are “Let no more people die” and “Forgive and forget the wrong done to each other.”
